I had ordered some gorgeous tartan patterned wool online which arrived at the weekend, and I just had not found time to sit down and make anything with it.
I got 2 metres of blue tartan and 4 metres of red ... Now if anyone has any idea's of what I can make with red wool blend tartan that would be great!
I fancied the idea of a wool pencil skirt for winter so I searched Pinterest for a few ideas (of course!) and have to say, I found more than a few that caught my eye. But I ended up raiding the bookshelf in the spare room and came across my copy of the Great British Sewing Bee's 'Sew Your Own Wardrobe' book my Aunty bought me for my birthday - which of course has a pattern for a pencil skirt!
I saw a tweak on Pinterest, adding gorgeous colour filled pleats to the bottom, so I may try this.
Just not too sure if it would only really look good with a plain fabric rather than patterned. Also, the plain blue is cotton (it's actually a pilow case - I buy packs of pillow cases in all different colours and patterns, as when you open them up you have alot of fabric, more than a fat quarter for a much lesser price) so not too sure how this will work.
Anyway, I opened up my pattern ...
There are so many patterns crammed onto one page! Went to find the tracing paper or baking paper ... We have run out!
So in an attempt not to ruin my pattern (and to be impatient!) I folded here there any everywhere to give myself something to work with and so I ended up with a parcel paper pattern :) I was far too tired last night to cut into the fabric, so that is getting put aside for another evening.

What a lovely skirt and more ready to sew,

Have fun sewing. I used to make my work skirts. Are you lining it with the pillow case fabric? Sorry lost the plot somewhat. BJ#9
ReplyDeleteLea, I love that tartan pattern! I have always love tartan patterns in general and that pencil skirt idea is wonderful! I don't sew, AT ALL, so my hats off to you! You will have to show us the finished product! Thanks for stopping by my blog and your comment! Have a wonderful rest of the week! :) Blessings Felicia #34
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I'm so jealous you guys have the great British Sewing Bee and the book for the wardrobe!! That is amazing. Pencil skirts are always adorable too. Happy Wednesday. Sandy Leigh #33
ReplyDeleteOooh, you're braver than me! I remember when I was about 13, I took a whole year to make an a-line skirt in sewing class. I had to take out the zip 8 times and by the time I'd finished, I'd grown and the bl567y thing didn't even fit :-D. I love the blue tartan and the contrasting fabric is great (fab tip about the pillowcases by the way). But as to the 4m of red tartan, well, you're just going to have to find a couple of Scotsmen who need kilts, Lolol!

I love tartan and checks - the blue is lovely but I can just imagine any left over red as cushions for Christmas! It's never a good idea cutting out when you're tired - the last time I did that I cut both the fabric and the tablecloth it was laying on - I forgot I hadn't taken the cloth off!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by earlier, I hope you have a lovely week,

Love the dotted fabric! I have a thing about dots! Lovely skirt - I used to wear these in the office a long time ago. Not sure I would fit into them these days, LOL! zsuzsa @ inkydinkydoodle #21
ReplyDeleteA pencil skirt sounds just the thing and it should look good in that fabric. Not sure about the cotton inserts, could you not get some bits of fabric similar to the skirt. Think about washing.
